Director of Quality Assurance

Role Summary

The Director of Quality Assurance will promote a quality mindset across Blue Label Labs by defining strategies and processes that will scale across our customer base. You will work with Product and Engineering to ensure quality in all aspects of delivery – from design through release. Success will be measured by metrics that you identify and track and that have a measurable impact on the quality and consistency of the delivery of our work. We are a fast-growing, agile team and we need a leader who can help fuel our growth with consistent quality that our customers can trust.

The ideal candidate will be a flexible problem solver who can adapt a preferred approach in order to meet a client’s unique needs.

We’re looking for an excellent cross-functional collaborator with experience working across teams to build alignment with Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers. In addition, this person should love the variety of challenges and project diversity that working in a development agency brings.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will be responsible for the quality of the products that we release on behalf of our clients
  • Hire and develop a team of QA Analysts and QA Engineers, providing performance feedback, evaluation, and coaching to grow the team’s skills and capabilities.
  • Define, establish and document company best practices and standard operating procedures for quality assurance in Design QA, UI testing, smoke testing, feature testing, regression testing, and release management. Ensure that everyone at the company is speaking the same language when it comes to quality and testing.
  • Ensure comprehensive test coverage by working closely with Product and Engineering teams to prioritize test execution, review test plans and report on testing progress and results.
  • Determine how to scale up or scale down the testing approach depending on client needs.
  • Grow a mature and sustainable QA Automation practice.
  • Work with clients to explain our QA methodologies and help our sales team win new opportunities when quality is a particular priority.
  • Knowledgeable about testing beyond consumer-facing mobile and web applications – able to advise clients about when and how to invest in things like load testing, performance testing, penetration testing, compliance testing (WCHAG2.1, PCI, HIPAA, GDPR), etc.
  • Expand QA capabilities (through training and/or partnerships) to take on new types of quality initiatives at Blue Label Labs.
  • Influence code quality by collaborating with the engineering team on standards for code reviews and unit testing.
  • Develop and implement training programs, together with other departmental leadership, for all employees to understand our QA approach and ensure our team can speak to it authentically.
  • Develop short and long-term strategies, together with other departmental leadership, to increase quality, track metrics, and measure results.
  • Define and monitor organization and project performance against OKRs and KPIs to ensure best-in-class delivery execution and commitment to quality.
  • Set a high bar and promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of leading a Quality Assurance department in either a digital agency or custom technology consulting firm.
  • 10+ years of overall software Quality Assurance experience including both manual and automation testing.
  • Experience with industry standard testing tools like TestRail, Postman, Charles, JMeter, Selenium, etc.
  • Deep understanding of CD/CI pipelines and QA automation integration.
  • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports and cross-team collaboration in a remote work environment (Slack, Zoom, etc.)
  • Experience evaluating, contracting, and managing vendor partnerships to allow flexibility in scaling the team to meet project staffing needs.

Director, Client Solutions (i.e., Sales)

As a Director, Client Solutions you will be responsible for finding and nurturing relationships with potential clients–entrepreneurs, enterprises and agencies. This role will be both an outbound (pro-active) and inbound (reactive) sales effort. Outbound sales effort supported by existing and new marketing efforts (performed by other, pre-existing team members), email campaigns and other outbound techniques. Inbound sales will be supported by a pre-existing flow of inbound leads.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portion of the inbound pipeline of leads.
  • Determine other channels/methods to grow outbound sales pipeline.
  • Coordinate with Marketing team to oversee execution of co-developed marketing strategies.
  • Identify and attend industry events.

Product Manager

As a Product Manager, you’ll work closely with the client to help shape business objectives and understand user needs, while supporting Design and Engineering in a multitude of ways. Your role will ensure that we’re bringing forward the best possible product to our clients and their customers. This a growing role at Blue Label Labs so there will be opportunity to shape how we work together and ship incredible products.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the project leads to define the product vision based on business goals and customer insights.
  • Identify business strategy gaps and assumptions that need validation. Help clients define their product-market fit hypothesis. Collaborate during the Product Strategy phase to better understand users’ needs, helps define testing and validation strategies.
  • Create, drive, and manage the product roadmap. Have an ongoing evaluation of technical, functional (UX), and performance trade-offs—make scope recommendations to clients. Continuously educate our clients on how we work and get product to the market.
  • Track and curate new feature ideas. Work with client partners to define future product opportunities.
  • Support a cross-functional working environment and ensure all voices are heard. Challenge the team throughout design and development cycles. Build and maintain productive relationships with client stakeholders and internal project teams.
  • Lead requirements gathering and documentation for research, design, and engineering. Own the user and business needs to ensure we’re putting the best product into the world.
  • Play an active role in mitigating delivery impediments such as backend dependencies, 3rd party milestones, and other business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Lead and Project Management to assess backend requirements, priorities, and estimates.

Sr. Product Designer

Looking for a new home? Our design team is growing. To thrive in this role, you’ll have 5+ years of design experience under your belt, as well as a demonstrated understanding of the pace and variety of agency work. Your ability to balance form and function is as good as your ability to balance client and user needs, and you can adapt to new challenges like a pro. We’re an end-to-end digital product shop, so we’ll need your strategic thinking and collaborative design chops at every stage of the game, from research to wireframes to visual design.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support your team to design and build products that you feel genuinely proud of.
  • Apply your design thinking and execution skills throughout the entire product lifecycle, keeping a keen eye on opportunities to step in and step up.
  • Participate in design team reviews, sharing, and brainstorms.
  • Guide the design process throughout the project, as well as dig into wires alongside your team.
  • Drive client presentations and discussions of your team’s work.

Software Engineer

We are a fast-growing, agile team and as a Software Engineer, you will have the ability to influence the design and development of nearly everything that we build. Engineering Coordinator

Role Summary:

The engineering coordinator works closely with an engineering manager on client projects to track and report on development and testing work across releases for in-market production support and product roadmap features. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, follows processes accurately and efficiently, and consistently and quickly follows through on commitments. This is a client-facing role, so proactive communication is critical, as well as the ability to clearly communicate with customers and remain calm under pressure.

Workload will vary from day to day, so we need a self-motivated individual who will take advantage of downtime to invest in improvement of the project or processes, but who can manage multiple priorities on a busy day. A successful candidate will improve the overall quality of tickets entered, provide visibility to the client and Blue Label Labs’ leadership team on project successes and learnings, expedite resolution of critical production issues, and establish strong client relationships.

What You’ll Do:

  • Track all Jira tickets logged for a project. Review each ticket to ensure that fields are filled out correctly, acceptance criteria is clearly described, and that tickets are ready for development
  • Escalate critical production tickets and ensure that they are worked quickly; provide proactive status updates to the customer for these items.
  • Keep track of overall release status – make sure that tickets are tagged to the correct releases, keep track of upcoming release requirements and timelines, generate release notes from Jira tickets and sanitize release notes before distribution
  • Ensure that Jira tickets are consistently moving through the system, and that the team is keeping tickets up-to-date as they work on them (developers and QA)
  • Work with the Quality Analysts to ensure prompt testing of features and track reports from the QA team to ensure progress on Jira tickets.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with the engineering manager, developers, developer lead(s), quality assurance, and clients.
  • Actively communicate with the client and internal team over Slack and via Jira tickets. Follow up, as necessary, so that clients know that BLL is on top of things.
  • Assist with issue triage by reproducing issues, gathering logs, and ensuring tickets have detailed information.
  • Ensure that release checklists are followed to the letter, and help improve the overall process by adding to and updating the checklists that are used by several projects.
  • Identify process improvements, and work with the engineering manager to implement changes to improve processes not just on a single project, but across the organization.
  • Assist with training and onboarding new engineering coordinators that join the team.
  • Prepare weekly progress reports to share with the internal team and client.
