Introducing SimpleKDS: A Kitchen Display System For Clover Point-of-Sale

| November 9, 2021

One of the most valuable byproducts in our line of business is the ability to identify opportunities from our experiences in designing, developing, and strategizing for the digital products we develop which recently lead us to create our own kitchen display system. Thanks to our work in mobile ordering from some of our more recent projects, we had one of those insightful “aha moments” that ultimately led us to develop a new product for the digital restaurant industry for use with Clover Point-of-Sale platform.

We’re excited to announce our new, free kitchen display app called SimpleKDS that will soon be available for free on Android for use with Clover POS. Let’s take a quick look at this new product and talk a little as to why we decided to invest in a free product.

Say hello to SimpleKDS: a free kitchen display system for Android

The SimpleKDS app is just as the name suggests: it’s a swim lane-style kitchen display system for Android  – think like in a fast-food kitchen that you see when you peek back to scope out the freshness of the fries. It securely connects to a business’s Clover merchant account to create a, well, simple kitchen display based on labels assigned to menu (i.e., inventory) items to quickly populate an interactive kitchen display on Android tablets that’s ideal for 10-inch form factor devices.

By installing this on a tablet, restaurants can create a kitchen display moments after downloading and installing the app. Once connected to a Clover merchant, the app simply needs to be configured  for where it will be stationed by selecting the relevant labels to display (or all for smaller spaces that only need one device.) Once an order is complete, a user just needs to tap the item on the screen to close it out.

It is genuinely free to use with any Clover merchant account. And don’t worry about ads – we wouldn’t want to be responsible for a nuclear meltdown in our user’s kitchens because we built in some BS “watch this 15-second ad to close an order.”

Why we invested in SimpleKDS for Clover POS?

Every so often, we decide to put some time and effort into tools (and the occasional game) that we can turn loose into the wild. Having done quite a bit of work with Clover POS, we’ve “bonded” with the system and wanted to add something into the mix of tools for others in the community.

It helps circulate our name a little further, plus it gives us a valuable tool that will help us speed up development and lower costs for future mobile ordering projects. Basically, it’s a win-win for everyone.

Another incredibly useful perk is that it provides an ongoing learning experience that may well lead us to discover even more opportunities. Exactly what they are isn’t quite clear just yet – maybe it’s some kind of intelligent gamification system that businesses can use to reward staff or maybe we offer some slick skins, ala Fortnite equipment?

But for now, it will just be nice to see our MVP for SimpleKDS go live, hopefully by the end of the month. Feel free to check out the SimpleKDS site where we’ll be publishing content regularly. Keep an eye on our Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn for where we’ll be sure to make an announcement once SimpleKDS goes live.

As always, get in touch if you’d like to discuss your idea for an app.
